Did You Know Child Prostitution In Thailand Involves Over 800,000 Children Under 16, Bought And Sold For A Profit That Exceeds That Of The Drug Trade?
Child prostitution is a serious social problem in Thailand. Prostitution is a form of enslavement that currently involves perhaps 800,000 children under the age of sixteen, bought and sold for a profit that exceeds that of the drug trade or weapons sales or lotteries or sports gambling.
One remarkable woman, Rev. Dr. Sirirat Pusurinkham is combating this exploitation and caring for the innocent victims left behind. Orphans whose parents have died or HIV/AIDS. As a child, she watched poor families sell their children to the sex trade in Thailand. After growing up and becoming a minister, she worked at the church her father founded. It is located near Laos and Burma, in the Golden Triangle, where many villagers are very poor and about 30% of them are illiterate earning 1 or 2 dollars a day and often do not make enough money to eat.
Living in a northern rural Thai village with over 100 AIDS orphans, she began taking in the children. Children without documentation of their birth have little chance of any life in Thailand. They are outcasts in their own villages. The Orphanage at Prachakittisuk Church has come a long way in the past few years but still has a long way to go and you and I can help.
Imagine; growing up in poverty and illiteracy with very little hope of anything better in your future. Imagine seeing your friends sold off into the sex trade for the rest of their short lives. Imagine your parents dying of AIDS (a rampant problem in the region) and you have no where to go and no one to turn to, an outcast ion your own village.
Now Imagine This! Imagine a place where you could go, where you would be cared for and loved and have the opportunity to be with children from similar backgrounds. Imagine being able to go to school and break the cycle of illiteracy, imagine having computers to learn with, a music room to learn about the joys of music and the arts. Imagine having a playground where you could forget about everything and just be a kid for a while.
Imagine what these children could do for their own community once they are grown up.
The orphanage needs a classroom, computers, a playground and many other things and you and I can help. Please join this group using the link in the upper right and help make this better future for the orphanage a reality.
Sincerely,
Barry Moore
